Where software engineering meets musical research
NaadaLab is an independent music technology project shaped by long-standing experience in software engineering, digital musical instruments, sound design, computer-assisted music, and music theory.
Its development approach combines engineering precision with a musician’s perspective: reliable tools, clear interfaces, real-time responsiveness, and concepts rooted in actual musical practice.
The project focuses especially on keyboard players, but many of its ideas are relevant to composers, performers, teachers, students, researchers, and anyone interested in exploring the expressive potential of tuning, pitch, and musical interaction.
Music technology beyond conventional boundaries.
NaadaLab creates software tools for musicians who want to explore tuning, intonation, microtonality, MIDI performance, and new forms of musical expression.
Beyond standard tuning
Music is richer than the familiar twelve equal semitones. NaadaLab develops applications that help musicians explore alternative temperaments, adaptive intonation, Indian classical tuning concepts, and microtonal systems in a practical performance context.
Expression through technology
Technology should expand the musician’s expressive range. NaadaLab focuses on real-time interaction, MIDI control, keyboard performance, musical gesture, and tools that connect theory with creative practice.
Applications
These native applications are the heart of the NaadaLab project. They are designed as professional tools for musicians, especially keyboard players, combining practical performance needs with advanced musical concepts.
Morphora
A live MIDI performance and processing environment focused on creative control, real-time interaction, morphing, dynamics, and flexible routing for keyboard players.
Intona
An adaptive keyboard microtonal tuner that dynamically maps MIDI keyboard notes to different tuning systems and intonation models in real time.
RelaTune
A tuning and expressive-performance tool designed to help musicians explore pitch, intonation, musical nuance, and real-time tuning behaviour.
Free Tools
Alongside its main software products, NaadaLab also develops small free web applications that explore specific musical concepts. These tools are open experiments, educational resources, and practical demonstrations of the ideas behind the project.
MicrotonalTuner
An interactive tool for exploring equal temperaments and alternative tuning systems, allowing users to visualise and compare different approaches to musical tuning.
SwaraTuner
A web-based tuning tool inspired by Indian classical music, designed to help users explore swaras, shrutis, and pitch relationships.
Algebraic Calculator
An experimental application that explores musical algebra: a way of describing musical intervals, relationships, and transformations independently of any particular tuning system.
